TABLE TO BOOK : THE LORD CREWE ARMS

We celebrated my Mum's birthday this month with lunch at The Lord Crewe Arms, a 21 bedroom, historic country hideaway in the picturesque village of Blanchland, Northumberland.
We dined together by a big open fire as I revelled in the remoteness and tranquility of the countryside as a welcome change of scenery from the big smoke.

BOOK TO READ: WHEN BREATH BECOMES AIR BY PAUL KALANITHI

I picked up this book in Newcastle Central train station to pass some time on my journey back to London.
When Breath Becomes Air is the true tale of Paul Kalanithi, who at the age of 36, on the verge of completing a decade's training to become a neurosurgeon, is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.
A desperately sad and ironic story sees Paul trading places from surgeon to patient, receiving this time the devastating news that he has himself had to break to many before him.
It is the first book that has ever reduced me to tears.
I marvelled at his passion and integrity toward his career and his bravery and determination in both saving life and facing death.
It's a read that makes you appreciate life that little bit more, expands your heart to allow space for an extra surge of gratitude and compels you to hug your nearest and dearest that little bit tighter.

When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi, £6.29 (was £8.99) |WHSmith|

Thanks for dropping by, hope you discovered something of interest
