Travel Notes - The Isle of Wight Revisited

As a child I spent many a long hot Summer on the isle of Wight, as an adult I revel in the opportunity to steal a few days with my folks when they make their annual trip back to the island.
Fresh from my latest visit I thought I would share some of my newest finds as well as regular faves.

Ryde Beach at sunset

The Cowshed Antiques and Salvage

Windmill Camper Site

The Garlic Farm

White Cliff Bay

Plane spotting through the skylight

For endless antiques, furniture and interiors. This was a brand new discovery and well worth the trip, nestled down a narrow farm lane in an old barn, floor to ceiling stock merchandised in an interesting layout that allows you to weave through the building leaving no stone unturned. They also have a great website where you can view a large selection of current stock online.

WINDMILL CAMPER SITE
For a camping experience unlike any other.
In my excitement at snapping pictures at The Cowshed, one of the guys tipped me off to visit the Camp site around the back for some really interesting photographs.
Fancy sleeping in an old bee hive? a shepherds hut? Or how about an original 1965 Westland Wessex helicopter?!
We were fortunate that the owner was around and she let us take a peek inside the helicopter which sleeps 4 and was totally amazing! - complete with everything you could possibly need, even the cockpit is still in tact and apparently the seats give an awesome vantage point down the valley to watch the sunset.
It's amazing to think this once saw action in the Faulklands and now you can sleep inside of it on a farm on the Isle of Wight!
There's a shower shack on site, as well as the mother of all BBQ's ''Big Bertha", "Spudomatic" a jacket potato oven, a cosy campfire and hens laying fresh eggs for breakfast.
There is also a Dairy cottage and Granary Barn conversion available for larger groups of people.
Such a special and unique place, some fantastic memories could be made here!

THE GARLIC FARM
For the ultimate vampire test
No visit to the island is complete without a stop at the Garlic Farm.
A pretty little cluster of stone buildings set within rolling fields, you can visit the Farm shop where there is every type of garlic imaginable as well as sauces, chutneys, and oils, a restaurant, and also a luxury yurt if you wish to camp here.
Most years I go a bit crazy and buy tons of stuff until my next annual trip but I recently discovered that local Teddington butcher AG Miller retail some of their sauces so this time I kept it simple and took home a little pouch of a new garlic for this year, an ancient rare variety from the black sea, they name it Lyubasha which translates to ''Little Loved One" Im a sucker for marketing and this just sounded so adorable.
The Garlic Farm website is really handy with tons of recipe ideas so you can figure out exactly what to do with all of your lovely ingredients once home!

THE POINTER INN
For delicious, reliable pub grub
Award winning pub with super friendly and professional staff, consistently good food and an interesting approach to gaining the freshest local produce while keeping the locals happy.
The Pointer use a unique bartering system allowing local growers, gardeners and allotment experts to swap their home grown produce for beer or food, so everyones a winner!

RUST JEWELLERY
For the most beautiful jewellery designs
I have followed the blog Junkaholique by jewellery designer Artemis Russell for a good few years now, (have a read, it's utterly gorgeous!) and along with her husband Nao they design and make the most stunning pieces imaginable.
After leaving London to return to the island with their young family they have set up shop in Yarmouth, a lovely little showroom which is open only on Saturdays and Sundays from 12-5pm.
You can view a full selection of designs online with recent offerings appearing to be influenced greatly by the sea and island life, a very talented duo who's attention to detail is second to none, from every single precision stroke of engraving to the way in which the designs are presented and merchandised with magical imagination.
